Rotary Systems entered the Top Drive market by winning the bid to manufacture two different customer-designed unions in production quantity, one of which was experiencing reliability problems.  After careful evaluation, Rotary Systems designed a replacement seal using their proprietary seal design which virtually eliminated their reliability issues.  Further, the seal was designed as a retrofit which allowed field upgrades to their existing hardware with no modification to the machined parts.  This success story led to the commissioning of a Rotary Systems-designed rotary union for the customer’s next-generation Top Drive.
